This year was the first year in many years that Colombia Red Cross Youth wasn`t going to have Youth Camp. But after campaigns from the volunteers, where they argued and begged for youth camp also this year, it was decided that yes, Youth Camp will be a reality also in 2008.
Wednesday 17th of December 18 volunteers from my district, Caldas, left for Medellin . All eager and happy to take part of this years youth camp.
During the five days in Medellin we took part in meetings, in seminars, work-shops, party and a guided tour. It was five interesting, exhausting but funny days!
The theme for the camp this year was Paz, Accion y Convivencia (PACO), a program Red Cross Youth Colombia has. This program is no longer active in Manizales, so for me this was something brand new.
There was also a lot of focus on the changes that might happen in Colombia Red Cross – they are talking about joining the three main groups; Damas Grises (Grey Ladies), Search and Rescue and Youth. The volunteers got the opportunity to ask out and say the opinion to some of the members of the board in Colombia Red Cross – to ask what this would mean for them as volunteers and as Red Cross Youth.
The best thing about the Youth camp was the fact that we met so many both new and old friends. I met Paola, who was a youth delegate in Norway 2007-2008, a good friend of mine. Last time we saw each other was at the Youth camp in Norway this summer. It was a bit odd to see her again, in Colombia, in her country. But what a joy!
